Graham set up the practice from scratch working initially from a small one man office in 1998. Over the following years he has been successful in developing a practice with a reputation for quality, design excellence and a proactive  client driven approach. Based in our London Office, Graham is ensuring that the practice truly does offer all of our clients the highest standard of quality wherever in the UK their requirements may be.

Graham puts his success down to his ability to surround himself with a team of some of the best talent in the industry along with the longstanding loyalty of his clients.

Graham has always insisted that the practice focuses upon ensuring each client and every project is treated with the upmost respect which goes someway to explain why the practice enjoys an unusually high percentage of repeat business from clients choosing to engage the services of box architects time and time again.

As a Director Graham heads up the London Office but continues to maintain a strategic overview of the Practice ensuring the business rests on a secure platform allowing it to develop existing relationships, push into new markets and continuously deliver excellent service as the practice continues to grow.

A qualified architect with 20 years’ experience in private architectural practice Ken brings a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of sectors to Box Architects. Having previously held a director’s position with one of the region’s largest private practices for over 12 years, he has developed extensive client, contractor, professional and funder relationships.

Ken has delivered prestigious schemes for large blue chip companies including National and European headquarter facilities, complex buildings such as national data centres, large mixed use redevelopment projects, regional sports facilities, hotel and conference facilities and large Retail developments.

Care and health developments have become a key specialism in recent years with extensive experience in Dementia Care, Learning Difficulty Care, Continuous Care, Extra Care and High Dependency Care. Ken has been involved in high profile health projects including the design of a £16M Facility for one of the largest Health Trusts in the North of England; providing regional specialist facilities.

As a Director Ken is the principle point of contact for many of the practices key clients and is responsible for developing and creating new client relationships to assist in the strategic expansion and diversification of the practice.

Angela Newton

Angela has been working in practice since 2003 and is an Associate Director of Box Architects and a fully qualified ARB Project Architect. Angela oversees a team of talented individuals and plans, organises and directs day to day operations on a range of multi-facetted projects.

Angela has been fortunate to be involved in a wide variety of projects through a diverse range of sectors including new build student accommodation blocks, high profile office refurbishments, industrial developments, master planning, retail and residential projects. Through the success of these projects Angela has sustained key clients such as the Home Office, Wates Retail and Interiors, Asda and A4e.

As project Architect Angela applies a pragmatic approach whilst ensuring the project is delivered on time and to the required budget to achieve the best possible design solution. Angela always provides a professional service whilst fully enjoying the demands of the day to day industry and developing positive working relationships both with clients, colleagues and other construction professionals.

Simon is registered with the Architects Registration Board and a Chartered Architect and has been working within the architectural profession for almost 25 years.

Through his career Simon has been given the opportunity to work on a diverse range of private sector projects throughout the UK. These include residential, retail, commercial, industrial, mixed use developments, a resilience upgrade installation for a live data centre and a series of ancillary buildings for a new gas fired power station.

Simon offers a wealth of experience in the residential sector, including remodelling of existing properties, new build houses / apartments, master planning, conversions of derelict buildings into apartments and homes for assisted living operated by national care providers.

Simon is able to provide a full architectural service from the initial design stage to the construction phase, and takes pride in providing an exceptional level of professional service for each and every project.

Phil joined Box Architects as a Senior Architect in May 2016, following 10 years working in commercial practice where he managed a range of projects, from small scale refurbishment schemes, to £25m new builds and master plans.

Phil is a talented architect who manages projects professionally and interprets our clients' ideas creatively. He is adept at suggesting new ways of utilising space and light, proposing palettes of materials, introducing the right contractor  and proposing design solutions that will reduce ongoing building running costs. He prides himself on providing clients with value for money, peace of mind and an exceptional end result.

Phil has a natural flair for design. He lifts our client's projects out of the ordinary and turns functional structures, into buildings which bring joy to their occupants for years to come.

Martyn Howie

Martyn Howie

Business Development Manager

Martyn is a qualified marketeer with a wealth of experience gained from both the Public and Private Sectors. Having enjoyed roles within the Leisure, Data and Security Industries, Martyn first transferred his skills to the Construction Industry ten years ago when he took up a Marketing Manager role for EAL – a UK awarding body for Engineering NVQ's (National Vocational Qualifications).

Martyn used this experience to secure a role with Faber Mausnell/Aecom where he developed a network of contacts within the engineering, consultancy and the built environment. This role enabled Martyn to develop valuable skills in bid management, tendering and Client presentations. In this role, Martyn was responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for the Region's multi-disciplinary design teams particularly within the Health, Education and Commercial Sectors. Martyn also managed the corporate hospitality and event management functions of Aecom across the North Eastern business hosting Client Events for up to 400 guests, golf days, programmes of business seminars and corporate communications.

 Ian qualified as an Architect in 2009 from the University of Huddersfield, where he also studied undergraduate and post graduate courses in Architecture. This fulfilled his aim of obtaining ARB and RIBA status.

Having previously worked in one of the region's largest private practices for over 9 years, Ian brings to Box Architects experience of the residential, commercial, healthcare and retail sectors. He has experience of developments for a Health Trust based in the north of England and multiple large blue chip companies. This includes being the Project Architect for the construction of a prestigious European Headquarters facility.
One of Ian's current passions within Architecture is Building Information Modelling (BIM). This is the process of managing the information produced during a construction project in a common format. Ian's experience includes the use of BIM on a prominent Healthcare project, which won a CIOB award for collaborative working and also on a retail facility for a large blue chip company. This experience has firmly reinforced and strengthened his beliefs within the BIM process of that it provides many benefits across the full range of work stages and Ian will be key in delivering BIM expertise and projects to our clients.
